
The Provencal village of Port Grimaud or 'Little Venice' was the inspiration of the architect François Spoerry. Constructed entirely on water in 1966, this charming village is situated in the heart of the Gulf of St. Tropez.
Of Port Grimaud's 100 hectares, 23 hectares are waterways and yhere is much to explore inclusing the canals and shops and not forgetting the Church of St Francis.
Port Grimaud offers its visitors an oasis of peace in the midst of Provencal countryside.
Catch the 'Little Train' to old, fragrant Grimaud village and uncover the history of this mediaeval hanging village situated beneath it's feudal castle above the Gulf of St. Tropex.
The Castle was built in the 11th century, fortified in the 15th century nad has been regularly renovated over the years.
You will pass St. Michaels Church, the Chapel of St. Roch and the magnificent St. Roch windmill whose grinding mechanism is constructed entirely of wood.

You will notice numerous fountains, one of which is surmounted by the coat of arms of the castle, the numerous 'trompe l'il' murals and the Museum of Art and Provencal; Traditions, which has a sundial on its facade
The Little Train stops at la Place Neuve shaded by 'Micocouliers', typical Provencal trees, some of which are as much as 100 years old. If you wish, you can stay and explore the mediaeval village of Grimaud, the shops, etc. before returning home on a later train.
